Uses of zoom lens in photography
Today we are sharing information on uses of zoom lens in photography.
Photography is a composition of the elements along with the subject of the photography. We have different types of lenses such as the wide-angle lens. You also have the zoom lens, and this helps you capture subjects from a different perspective.
Subject and the background
First, the zoom lens is a group of lenses arranged so you can manually change the focal length of the camera. This makes a world of difference for the photograph from the perspective of the background. When you stay near the subject and take a photograph, you put a lot of emphasis on the background. Not that you intend to, but the point is when you go further back and use the zoom lens to focus on the subject, the emphasis on the background of the photograph is not so emphasized. This makes the subject more special.
When you use a DSLR camera, you can change the lens of the camera. We call these type of lenses as interchangeable lenses. The lenses have names and refer to them by these names. The names are numbers – one for the range of their focal lengths and another for the amplification or the zoom. They also specify the diameter of the objective lens and thus the entire ‘name’ is identifiable as a wide angle or a zoom lens.
Read the specs first
The lens will thus have the specs that tell you about their character. For instance, take the Canon brand. We see that the mirrorless cameras such as the Canon EOS – M needs to pair with EF-M lenses only. The crop sensor cameras such as the Rebel cameras will only pair with EF or EF-S lenses. The full frame cameras such as the Canon 1D, the Canon 5D, and the Canon 6D will only work with EF lenses. A word here about the mirrorless camera. They can take up EF and EF-S lenses with an adapter.
The standard lens has a mid-range focal length. Typically, this is around 50mm and has the same angle that the human eye has. So, the photographs will seem natural. The macro lenses are those one uses for close-up photography. You can get plenty of detail with these types of lenses with medium to long focal lengths 100mm to 200mm or so. The telephoto lens has a long focal length and the magnification it provides is large. These lenses tend to remain heavy due to their robust and elaborate construction.
Use of the telephoto lens
One uses telephoto lenses for events you cannot get close to such as wildlife and sports. And, then you have a wide angle lens that has an extremely short focal length. The compact camera will have a 5x magnification, but it will not cover a wide picture. For instance, if you want to take the photograph of your house you will need a 5-60mm 12x camera that allows you to fit the entire house into the photograph.
The wildlife photographer will find a use for the 30-360mm 12x lens that allows more zoom. The zoom operates by rotating the barrel of your DSLR. In your compact camera, you might have a button that you could press. The lens magnifies the scene so you in effect move closer to the subject.
